I think we ended up tied for seventh out of 16 teams. That’s about where we stand at the moment. There is a clear class of teams above us, ranging from the New York Yankees down to, oh, let’s say Bomb Squad. Nah, make that Moon Time … they’re about 1 percent better than we are . . . → Read More: O-fers notch three wins in Regis

A lot of stuff has been going on lately, but that’s still no excuse for me not to pass out some huge compliments to Gregg McCoy for the Bombs Away tournament a couple weeks ago.
This is the third time (I think) we’ve gone to Moscow for Bombs Away, including each of the last two years. Just judging . . . → Read More: Never too late to say nice things

We’ve been out of a tournament on Friday before. This is the first time we’ve been eliminated on Thursday. I guess we’ve all got time to do our chores this weekend.
We can’t be as bad as we’ve looked so far this season. In five games, we’ve scored 76 runs. Thirty-three of those came in the first . . . → Read More: Two and a Q

The new schedule for this week’s preseason tournament in Coeur d’Alene has us playing at 7:15 Wednesday on McEuen 2. Yeah, I know it’s the same day, time and field as last week, but the opponent is different. Angelo’s is off the hook, and instead we’re facing Ciao Mambo.
I ate there once. . . . → Read More: Game … on?

First of all, with 27 teams in a tournament and eight fields to use, there’s no reason the tournament couldn’t be played in two days anyway. But with the double rainouts of Wednesday and Thursday, the new schedule is interesting in its own way. Plus it starts on Friday night, so they still didn’t squeeze it . . . → Read More: It all makes sense to me now

Angelo’s on McEuen 2 at 7:15 and the weather basically, well, all day. Eighty percent chance of rain Tuesday and 70 percent on Wednesday. We should expect cold weather and plan on being flexible with our schedules.
If the games are on schedule, we will win and play Thursday night, same field, same time. I know there’s . . . → Read More: O-fers face two nasty opponents Wednesday

I thought that went pretty well, all things considered. The O-fers are, if not exactly shorthanded, certainly hurting at certain positions. Until we get Sloppy, Mookie or The Rick available to take the outfield, our offense is going to have to carry most of the load.
That plan worked well in the first game on Saturday. Iron Horse Saloon dropped seven runs on us in the top of the first inning, but we turned right back around and dropped a 12-bomb on them in the bottom of the same inning. We scored a bunch, gave up a bunch, and in the final inning, we started with a nine-run inning and finished with a three-run victory, 33-30.
Thirty-three runs per game would probably lead to a lot of wins. Continue reading Spring Fling recap

Game time for the O-fers is 11 a.m. Saturday on Plantes Ferry Park field 5. Coming from Coeur d’Alene, it’s extremely easy to get to Plantes Ferry in Spokane Valley:
1. Take the Sullivan exit (291).
2. Go north to Wellesley. Take a left.
4. Follow Wellesley to the fields, which will be on the left.

… but here’s a picture of Dave “Mookie” Hunt sliding safely into second base during a game against Cruisers, whom we beat twice during the Coeur d’Alene tournament.
I think there's a point deduction involved for hitting the water too soon, but Dave Hunt was safe on this slide into . . . → Read More: It was hot that day

There’s a balancing point somewhere between Superior, which had 38 teams on three ballfields, and Coeur d’Alene, which drew 4 teams to a tournament in a city with eight ballfields. With about a hundred men’s teams from which to draw, something just isn’t right when only four teams show up to play. I don’t know what . . . → Read More: Somewhere in the middle
