The Atlanta centerfield curse?

Andruw Jones’ cold summer followed by cold winter

Never a high-average hitter, Andruw Jones hit just .222 in 2007, his last year with Atlanta. Last year, in an injury-plagued season with the L.A. Dodgers, he hit .158 and struck out in 36 percent of his plate appearances.

It appears that the “bad luck” continues (bad luck in quotes . . . → Read More: The Atlanta centerfield curse?

A new Christmas song

This new hit song was coined while we were trying to find our way to the hotel. We finally sorted out that our directions were upside down, i.e. they had expected us to be coming from the north instead of from the south.

“Oh, the weather outside is shi**y,
And we’re lost in an unknown city,
But since we’ve . . . → Read More: A new Christmas song

My first NFL game

I had never seen an NFL game in person before, so when Heinie K. Snatch (aka O-fer 4 Life Glen Christmann) called me about a month ago and offered a chance to see the Seattle Seahawks play the New York Jets, I had to say yes. Future Hall of Famer Brett Favre would be in town . . . → Read More: My first NFL game

Revoke these parents’ rights

You gotta be kidding, right?

The parents named one of their children Adolf Hitler and another Aryan Nation. Johnny Cash thought it was hard just being a boy named Sue.

Who cares why they did it? Those parents have screwed their kids forever. Here’s three things you’ll never hear on television:

“I voted for Adolf Hitler Campbell for president.”

Is it spring yet?

Softball dream last night:

The O-fers were playing their first game at nationals (yeah; that’s why they call them dreams). I was out in left-center field with the scorekeeper, my arms filled with the usual stuff: scorebooks, rosters, etc. We were batting first because, well, we can’t win a coin toss even in my dreams.

Dents now only allowed in head

Another of the ASA rule changes for 2009 is a stronger requirement for the conditions of the bats in play. The new rule (3.1F) says “the bat shall be free of burrs, dents and visible cracks,” period.

It used to be that the umpires carried around a ring, 2 1/4″ in diameter, that they placed around any . . . → Read More: Dents now only allowed in head
